– Okay. – (FBE) Then you’ll listen
to the songs you read and tell us your thoughts. This artist has a lot of hit songs,
but we tried to get as many as we could in here.
– Oh! Cool. – It’s interesting to try and guess,
because everybody writes and expresses themselves differently. – I hardly know any of ’em, you know?
Unless it’s, you know, pre-1980s. – “Some may say I need
to be afraid of losing everything because of where I had my start
and where I made my name.” – “Well, everything is the same
in the la-la land machine. Well, I’m not gonna change
in the la-la land machine.” – She’s got her mind made up already,
and it’s not gonna change. – This person said, “No matter what,
I’m not gonna change the way I behave or I think.” – It sounds as if she’s been
probably poor. Started from a poor beginning,
and she’s a little afraid that now that she’s successful,
she’s just scared of losing everything.

Mad at each other or something. – She might have some enemies
out there, some haters. Will it make you
feel better, hater? (laughs) – All the bad things
that happened in the past haven’t replaced those windows,
’cause that’s growth, that’s learning, but I’m standing
on my feet. I’m still here. – “You can take everything I have.
You can break everything I am, like I’m made of glass.”
– “Like I’m made of paper. Go on and try to tear me down.
I will be rising from the ground like a skyscraper.” – Woo-hoo! I love it.
You can’t tear her down. She’s got some inner strength. – It sounds like someone
who’s gone through a lot and has courage.
The courage of their convictions or whether it’s in a love relationship
or in a career. – “You make me glow,
but I cover up, won’t let it show. So I’m putting my defenses up,
’cause I don’t wanna fall in love.” – “If I ever did that,
I think I’d have a heart attack.” (chuckles) Wow, she’s hardcore.
I like everything she’s saying. – Well, obviously this person
has an effect on them: “You make me glow.” – It’s someone that
the singer really likes, but doesn’t wanna show it yet,
maybe has been hurt. So they’re kind of
protecting themselves. – She’s putting those walls up,
’cause she doesn’t wanna get hurt. Yeah, so I feel ya. – “Got my mind on your body
and your body on my mind. Got a taste for the cherry.
I just need to take a bite.” – “Don’t tell your mother.
Kiss one another. Die for each other.
We’ll be cool for the summer.” – She’s thinking about someone
and lusting for someone. This time, I think she’s talking
about a girl. – Now she’s letting herself
go a little bit. Maybe she’s thinking about
she wants to make love to this person or something. – “I was your amber,
but now she’s your shade of gold. Stone cold, baby.
God knows I try to feel happy for you.
Know that I am, even if I can’t understand.” – “I’ll take the pain.
Give me the truth. Me and my heart,
we’ll make it through. If happy is her,
I’m happy for you.” – There’s a triangle here.
Let’s see who wins this. – Evidently, the person she was
really in love with has found someone else.
And she’s trying to feel happy if this guy is happy. – This is getting a little deeper. It’s over…
but the love is still there. – “Now, you’re out here
lookin’ like regret, ain’t too proud to beg.
Second chance, you’ll never get.” – “And yeah, I know how bad
it must hurt to see me like this, but it gets worse.” – It sounds like somebody
that hurt her is trying to get back with her.
And she’s not having it. – This singer is not willing
to give them another chance and probably rightly so. – That’s just playing someone
in my opinion. I’m hoping I’m using
that word correctly. – Um, karma’s a bitch. (chuckles)
– ♪ Gnarly, radical ♪ ♪ On the block, I’m magical ♪ – “Now, payback is a bad bitch,
and baby, I’m the baddest. You [bleep] with a savage.
Can’t have this, can’t have this.” – “And it’s be nice of me

(laughs) – She is a little ticked off,
isn’t she? (laughs) She’s really mad.
– This is someone getting ugly and don’t expect flowers
and “I understand.” It’s like, “No,
it’s payback time.” – (FBE) Do you have any idea
whose lyrics you’ve been reading? – No, I don’t.
– Maybe Mary J. Blige? – This could be Rihanna.
– Demi Lovato. – (FBE) These were lyrics to songs
from Demi Lovato’s repertoire. – Okay, I’ve heard the name.
I really don’t know her. – Oh! That was
gonna be my next guess! – Really? And I like Demi Lovato. – (FBE) So Demi Lovato
is not only a successful singer, but she is also an activist
and philanthropist. She advocates
for mental health awareness, LGBTQ rights, positive messages
on body image, and bullying and more.
– I like her. – Okay, I like it.
I mean, the songs certainly would fit in with someone
that was interested in those areas. – I’m aware of some
of the things that she’s doing. My daughter, even though
she’s one of the best students in school, she was bullied. – (FBE) Well, let’s play you
the songs you read. – Okay! – ♪ Some may say I need to be afraid of losing everything ♪ ♪ Because of where I… ♪
– She sounds pretty good. – This is a little more rock
than pop with the drums and stuff. – I like it. She’s got strong pipes. – She reminds me of the oldies,
The Go-Gos, and people like that. – It went, I thought,
with what she was expressing there about the la-la land. – ♪ Would it make you feel better to watch me while I bleed? ♪ ♪ All my windows still are… ♪
– And I’ve seen her perform this on several TV shows.

something from a movie. – ♪ Go on and try

I like it. – ♪ …from the ground

but she’s still gonna be a winner. – You get the emotion of it,
someone that’s really struggling. – ♪ You make me glow ♪ ♪ But I cover up ♪ ♪ Won’t let it show ♪
– Yeah, she’s scared. – She definitely has her own sound. When you hear it,
you know that’s Demi Lovato. – Every song I hear
is a very similar setup. – They’re very grand. And her voice, you know,
shows many different sides in these three different songs. – I like her voice.
I’ll have to look on YouTube or something now. – ♪ Got my mind on your body
and your body on my mind ♪ ♪ Got a taste for the cherry ♪
– I don’t understand the cherry part. – Kind of a sexy beat, too. – She’s really good.
Maybe she went to Berklee. – ♪ We’re cool for the summer ♪ – I’m still not sure about this one. I don’t like the

in a club with that. (laughs) All the young people. – ♪ I was your amber,

– Yeah. This have a lot of passion into it. – And you get the sense
of some pain there. – She sounds really heartbroken
in this one. I can hear it in her voice. – ♪ Me and my heart,
we’ll make it through ♪ – All right. – ♪ If happy is her ♪
– Wow. – ♪ I’m happy for you ♪ – Well, she does know how to sing. – Really great.

when I see someone on TV or hear someone in an interview
and see who they are, ’cause it adds to their talent. – She’s smart,
and that’s what she’s done. She’s changed from the time
that she started, and she’s evolving into
